Tuesdays after school

Students who attend Bon Meade Elementary are escorted to Riverdale by ARK staff. Students from other schools may be transported to Riverdale by parents.
Riverdale Presbyterian Church is Bon Meade Elementary School’s next door neighbor. We are a Christian church who understands the needs of today’s families and sincerely desires to help parents raise their children with wisdom and values that will give their lives purpose, direction, and success.
At Riverdale, we take active approaches to reach this goal, one of which is offering a vital weekly afterschool program for students grades Kindergarten through 5th grade. A.R.K, our Afterschool program is held on Tuesdays from approximately 3:30 (children are escorted to Riverdale after school dismissal) to 5:00 pm.
Why A.R.K ?
First, A.R.K. simply stands for Afterschool at Riverdale for Kids, but the name really has a deeper meaning to us. A.R.K recalls the biblical story of Noah. While the world around him chose to sin, rather than follow God, Noah was faithful. Because of Noah’s faithfulness, God protected Noah and his family in the ark when others were destroyed because they chose to turn their backs on God. In the ARK, Noah, his family, and the animals were safe and secure. The animals were all of different kinds, but within the ARK there was peace. They all lived together and Noah and his family provided loving care for all on board. At A.R.K we try to instill in the children many of elements found in this Bible story...Love of God and faithfulness to Him

Being friends with others who might be a little different than you.
This leads us to another important component at A.R.K

Social Growth
At ARK we encourage friendships and the development of peer groups! When students arrive at ARK they have a snack together and at some point in their afterschool experience they have time for play, either through organized games or free play. Our youth center includes a rec room and our church grounds provide abundant space for outdoor play when weather permits. In addition to snack time and recreation, we always try to build opportunities into our lesson times for students to participate and experience the joy of learning together. Learning times will be lead by our youth pastor & other caring adults, teens and college students.
Spiritual Growth
Over the last two years we have been “Walking through the Word” and in the fall of 2009 we will picked up where we left off. Sometimes, we make the mistake of looking at the Bible as just a collection of ancient stories that have nothing to do with us today. We are helping children to understand that nothing could be further from the truth! The Bible is really “God’s Big Story!” God’s story didn’t end with the Bible...His story continues today and every one of us is a part of it! This exciting journey will continue in the Fall of ‘09. If you are new to A.R.K and would like for your child to “catch up” with the lessons that have already been presented, our youth pastor will be happy to provide resources you may use at home-just let us know!
